Camber Sands Beach

a real treat any time of the year

Where we are....

Our holiday cottages at Camber Sands are just a few minutes stroll from Camber Sands beach on the award winning White Sands, a development of houses and cottages with a New England feel set within landscaped surroundings on the edge of protected marshland (SSSI) and with its own wildlife havens.

White Sand has been landscaped with nature in mind and includes fenced areas with ponds and waterways.

The village of Camber has a couple of convenience stores, a couple of pubs, cafes and restaurants all within a short walk. Salts Farm shop between Camber and Rye stocks a small range of groceries, vegetables, locally reared meat, cheeses, bread etc. and also stocks Cook frozen meals. Rye Bay Fisheries further along the same road has a wide range of locally caught fresh fish and seafood.

Rye, with its cobbled streets and ancient buildings, is about 3 miles away. The shops are an eclectic mix selling anything and everything from antique to modern chic. There are several artisan food shops and a vast number of restaurants, pubs, cafes and tearooms. Rye also has a lovely independent cinema, Kino, showing the latest films.

Camber Sands beach...

Camber Sands beach is cleaned daily to ensure it is a safe environment for all its users. In addition, the beach is zoned into separate areas with activities such as kite surfing kept to the far east end and the central and western sections for less hectic pastimes.

Life guards are on duty during the summer season (please check dates and times online).

The beach is dog friendly all year round but from 1st May – 30th September dogs are restricted to the area to the west of our usual access point and to the east of the central area (still several miles of sandy beach).

Horse riding is allowed on the beach at low tide all year round but during the summer months is restricted to before 8:30am and after 7pm.

At low tide the sea recedes by about half a mile leaving small pools and lagoons which are ideal for children to splash about in safely.

You will find a range of facilities at the beach including toilets, a few cafés, bars and shops selling mainly beach goods and a few basic groceries (not all open outside the peak summer season). Visitors can hire sun loungers and parasols during summer season. Our cottages have windbreaks, picnic rugs, beach chairs, a cool bag and freezer blocks as well as a selection of beach toys for guests’ use.

The quickest and our preferred way to the beach from The Salty Dog and Rock Lobster is via the sand dunes opposite The Gallivant. However, this route is not for everyone and there is an alternative route which provides level access just a short walk along the Old Lydd Road via the main car park.

Activities at Camber Sands...

Camber Sands is also very popular for activities such as kite surfing, kite buggying, kite boarding, and land yachting. The zone set aside for this is at the far east of the beach at Broomhill where additional free parking is available. Guests can store sports equipment safely and securely at both our cottages. Courses and lessons for all these sports are available for all levels of experience. Please visit our Things to Do page for more details.

For those of us after a more gentle form of exercise Camber Sands has numerous rights-of-way. You can walk to Rye quite easily (3 miles away) along the beach and river mouth or along the cycle path. The cycle path (part of the National Cycle Route 2) is traffic free, ideal for a family bike ride into Rye. Guests can store bikes securely in the shed or garage at our cottages.

Camber Sands is the only sand dune system in East Sussex and is a haven for wildlife, being home to over 250 different species of plants and animals and an important site for wintering birds including hen harriers and short-eared owls. Rye Harbour Nature Reserve also provides many bird watching opportunities.
